The Guelph Y offers a wide variety of programming for children and youth. These programs are tailored to specific age groups and a variety of different interests.

Preschool Programs (Ages 0 to 5)

Play Care, ages 0 to 5 years

Drop your baby or preschooler off at Play Care so you can enjoy the Y. Your child will love having social time with others, reading stories, singing or doing a craft. This program supports with bottle feeding and light snacks, diaper changing and helps to support children who are going through separation anxiety. Leave it to our staff to make your child feel special while in our care.

  • At least one parent and the child must be Guelph Y members to access the Play Care Center
  • Parents must remain in the building once their child is signed into Play Care
  • If staff are unable to settle a child, parent/guardian may be asked to assist in settling the child or supporting behaviour

Preschool Vibe, ages 3 to 5 years

Join us for different forms of music and movement facilitated by one of our energetic program staff. 

Preschool Play Zone, ages 3 to 5 years

Enjoy fun games and get creative with our daily craft. Also, enjoy the two-level play structure in the Extreme Youth Zone.

Preschool Active, ages 3 to 5 years

Try a new sport including soccer, basketball and floor hockey or play an active game. Learn new skills and have fun.

Wake Up Shake Up, ages 3 to 5 years

Arts and crafts, circle time, story time and free play. This program is perfect for those getting ready to start school.

Wiggles and Giggles, ages 0 to 5 years

Ride, slide, move and explore at our kid friendly play zone down in the main gym. This program is offered every day of the week. A great opportunity to play with your little one's in an open, interactive space that supports movement and motion. Parents/guardians must attend this program with their child.

Youth Programs (Ages 6 to 12)

Youth 6-9 are welcome to use the XYZ room and attend Youth Programs, as per the ages on the schedule. Youth may attend for the full duration of daily programs with no time limit.

Parents/ Guardian must sign 6-9 year olds in and out of programs, however parents are not required to stay in the building. 

Youth Fun

Be creative, be challenged, be a part of a team and have fun. Drop into the Extreme Youth Zone (XYZ) to enjoy the climbing wall and two level play structure while making new friends. Check out our monthly schedule for theme days, activities, and special events!

Jr. Chef

Create, cook and taste your creations each week. Take home these recipes and try them with your family..

Team Extreme

Games played in teams only. Staff will encourage strong team building. Games include dodgeball, capture the flag, ball hockey and more.

Youth Active

Active gym games and sports.

Youth Games

Active group games to get you moving.

Youth Sports

Team play, rules and new skills. Youth Sports teaches and encourages youth to get involved in team sports.

Youth Leadership Program

The Youth Leadership Programs will offer a safe supportive environment where youth can cultivate leadership and communication skills while learning what it means to be part of our local and global communities through group activities, goal setting, volunteering and practical experiences.

Youth Recreational Sports (Ages 6 to 12) 

Basketball (Ages 6-8 and 9-12)

Learn to dribble, pass and shoot through skills drills and non-competitive scrimmages. Offered for youth aged 6-12 and 10-12. Check current schedule for availability.

Soccer (Ages 6-12)

Pass, shoot and score. You will gain skills in game play and overall skills. Offered for youth aged 6-12. Check current schedule for availability.

Floor Hockey (Ages 6-12)

Join us for hockey in the main gym. Youth will improve their skills through fun drills and friendly scrimmages. Check current schedule for availability.

Dodgeball (Ages 9-12)

Duck, weave and dodge the ball while learning new variations of this classic game. Check current schedule for availability.   

Preteen (Ages 10 to 14) and Teen (Ages 13 to 18+)

Preteen

*10-14+ year old youth may independently sign themselves in and out of programs once per visit. Parents/Guardians are not required to be in the building.

 

Babysitting Training course, ages 10 to 14 *Registered Program*

An 8-week course that prepares youth who are ready to start babysitting, infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Topics such as safety, first aid, activity planning, food preparation, bed time routines and more will be covered. A certificate of completion will be awarded once the course has been completed.

Home Alone Course, ages 10 to 12 *Registered Program*

This 8-week course will prepare youth with the confidence they need to be on their own at home. A certificate of completion will be awarded once the course has been completed.

Safe Sisters, ages 10 to 14

Join us for guest speakers, games, conversations, and activities that bring young girls together in a safe space to share. An emphasis will be placed on their concerns for safety within our community.

Y Guys, ages 10 to 14

This drop in program is designed to provide a safe environment where boys can learn to express themselves in a productive and healthy manner, to work as a team, and to discuss issues and concerns that affect their lives. The boys will start each day with an active portion, and spend the second half participating in a discussion group facilitated by our staff team.

Multi-Sport

Join us in the gym for a rotating selection of sports. Come try out European Handball, Scoop Ball, Volleyball, Basketball and More!

Kidz Fit

Guelph Kidz Fit is designed to present parents and their children aged 10-12 the opportunity to participate in fitness center activities in a supported, safe and age-appropriate environment. Youth and their parents will be able to sign up at Member Services for one orientation sessions. The orientation sessions will be 1 hour in length.

Teen

Teen Drop-In, ages 13 to 18

Come hang out with your friends and meet other teens as you enjoy our XYZ room for teens only! Use the X-box, Kinect, Nintendo Wii, or participate in other activities. Come by before Teen Basketball starts for a snack and to spend some time with friends. 

Teen Basketball, ages 18+

Play pick-up basketball with other teens in the gym!

Teen Volleyball, ages 18+

Volley, spike, bump. Come join the rest of the players in the gym for a set or two!

Teenage Parents Program, ages 14-24

The Guelph Y Teenage Parents Program (TAPPs) is a free program that offers a safe, non-judgmental place where pregnant and parenting teen mothers and fathers can belong and grow as parents. We provide support, information and resources to pregnant and parenting mothers between the ages of 14 and 21. Partners are welcome as they see fit, we seek to empower and support all young parents.
