What is the Teenage Parents Program?
The Guelph Y Teenage Parents Program (TAPPs) is a free program that offers a safe, non- judgmental place where pregnant and parenting teens can belong and grow as parents. We provide support, information and resources to pregnant and parenting mothers between the ages of 14 and 21.
TAPPs is an ongoing program offered to those who would like to join at any time. We offer programs throughout the week that provide and support with information related to:
- Child development
- Nutrition
- Managing stress
- Birth control
- Budgeting
- Healthy relationships
- Behavior management
Connect with other Parents
You can drop by the TAPPs program three times per week to connect with other teen parents and gain access to information, resources and tools to develop you parenting skills. You will learn about caring for their children and themselves. You will have an opportunity to talk about the challenges and joys of being a parent and ask questions in an open and safe environment with other teens who are going through similar experiences.
Parenting Skills and Life Skills
Guest Speakers come from all areas of the community to provide support to participants in areas including budgeting, housing, school, employment and relationships.
Community Resources
By joining TAPPs, you will have access to additional community groups through referrals and we can help you become familiar with the contacts and agencies in the community that provide support to young parents.
Subsidized Family Y Memberships for you to Access
You will have the opportunity to become a member of the Guelph Y where you can participate in programs offered, gym workouts and access to the pool. Swimming lessons are included each week for children as well.
What Tapps Participants are Saying |
"I've found the program to be very helpful. It's great being able to talk to people who are going through the same things that I am."
"The most beneficial part of TAPPS is that my daughter gets a chance to play with other kids. Sometimes daycare isn't an option financially, so coming to TAPPS gives her a chance to interact." "They make you feel really comfortable here. It's a relaxed atmosphere where you can talk about whatever you want. TAPPS is a fun place to be." |
