Youth programs give children ages 6-14 the chance to get active and have fun!
KIDS ON THE BALL
(Ages: 6-12 years old) Come join us on the stability ball and develop balance, rhythm, coordination, and fitness skills through games, dance, and drumming. Youth will have a ball!!
(Ages: 10-14 years old) Dip, Dive and Dodge. Learn new ways to play and enjoy the old classics as well!
(Ages: 6-12 years old)An opportunity to participate in team games and sports, like Ultimate Frisbee, scooter hockey and European Handball.
(Ages: 6-12 years old) Skills, drills and practice games. This skill based program will teach youth the basics and give them the chance to practice playing.
CHICKEN NOODLE SOUP GAMES
(Ages: 6-12 years old) Get ready for active games and lots of laughs as youth play non-competitive, cooperative games using pool noodles, rubber chickens, and much, much more. Be ready to have fun and get active. Please remember to wear non-marking, indoor running shoes.
(Ages: 6-12 years old) This is a child centred program which teaches children of all skill levels, the basics of gymnastics including tumbling, jumping, balance and partner routines.
(Ages: 10-14 years old)Drill, Kick, Score and Play. Join us for this program for youth age 10-14.
(Ages: 10-14 years old) Skills drills, drills and practice games. This skill based program will teach youth the basics and give them the chance to practice playing.
KIDS IN THE KITCHEN
Junior chefs unite! Have fun while learning about healthy eating and living. Children will do different recipes each week.
This interactive entertainment area has a play structure, transversal climbing wall and much more!!
(Ages 6-12 years old) This 12 week program will provide flexibility, aerobic & strengthening exercises, self-defense techniques and introductory karate skills. Registration required. Extra fee involved.
(Ages 10-14 years old): Join us for some pick up floor hockey in the small gym. All skill levels welcome.
(Ages 6-12 years old): Check out the Youth Activity Centre. Arts and crafts, games, activities and the opportunity to make new friends.
(Ages 10-14 years old): Teens can come hang out with us and choose a different activity each week!
(Ages 6-12 years old): A fun-filled, action packed yoga class for kids ages 6 & up. Providing creative, movement-focused exercise and unique interactive yoga games and postures with experienced instruction.
Youth Leadership Programs
JUNIOR LEADER CORPS
(Ages: 10-12 years old): Junior Leader Corps. Gives children a chance to feel they are part of the Y. It prepares young teens for a future of volunteering and involvement in Y events. The program teaches youth team work, leadership and prepares them for volunteer opportunities in the youth department at the Y. Focus will be on the Y core values, asset building and life skills.
GIRL POWER (STEPS)
Female Members(Ages: 10-15 years old): Feel good, look great and love yourself, in this all girls’ health, fitness, and well being group. Meeting each week we participate in fitness classes, make healthy meals, have guest speakers and learn about hair, make up and fashion.
(Ages: 10+ years of age): The Babysitter Training Course is an open access, on-going instructional program, divided into eight modules. It is designed for members who have an interest in babysitting children aged 6 months and older. The goal of this program is to help the babysitter trainee learn about childcare, emergency prevention, basic first aid, nutrition, street safety, and activity planning.
A four-level instructional program introduces a series of easy to learn skills to bring children from non-swimmer to intermediate swimmers in a values-based environment.
This program improves swimming ability, furthers water sport and safety skills while developing endurance and improved strokes. (For youth who have completed the Learn-to-Swim program)
AQUATIC LEADER CORP (ALC)
An innovative aquatic program, ALC fills the void between swim lessons and the lifesaving levels. Designed as a continuous swim lesson, ALC will take swimmers from Star 5 through Bronze Star. Each participant works with their own swim coach to start incorporating advanced lifesaving techniques and swim ability. With an emphasis on leadership and responsibility ALC participants are now able to focus on their own personal love of swimming as well as advance through the four main levels.
Open swim is available for all members. Open swim allows for all members to use our aquatic facility. Our slide is available to all members over 6 years of age and over 4 feet tall. Members 10 years or older may attend by themselves. Children 6-10 years who are non-swimmers and all children under 6, must be accompanied by an adult in the water. Must follow Guelph Y Admission Policy
Y SWIM CLUB
For youth ages 7-15 years of age, this program will provide youth the opportunity to improve their swimming ability, improve fitness levels and experience other aspects of swimming. Registration required. Minimal fee involved. Youth must be “Swimmer” level or above
