LAND Programs
TEEN BASKETBALL
(Ages: 13-17 years old) Supervised pick up basketball games and 3 on 3 tournaments the last Friday of every month.
VOLLEYBALL SKILLS
(Ages: 13 +) Spike, Set, Volley! Learn the basics or brush up on your techniques. All skill levels welcome.
DODGEBALL
(Ages: 10-14 years old) Dip, Dive, Dodge. Play traditional dodgeball and common variations of this classic game
X -ZONE
(Ages: 12-17 years) A drop in program for youth 12-17, in our XYZ room. Hang out, play basketball, foozeball or play on the X-Box 360.
GYMIFICATION (Fitness Centre Orientation)
(Ages:13-14 years old)This course covers topics such as safety, fitness components, proper etiquette and more. Successful completion allows participants to use equipment independently.

TEEN CHOICE
(Ages 10-14 years old): Teens can come and hang out with us and choose a different activity each week!
FOSSE’S FLASHMOB
(Ages 13-17 years old) Teens in this crew will choose a topic and educate members of the community on this topic while building a “Flashmob” routine. Registration is required. No fee involved. Members and Non Members are welcome!
Youth Leadership Programs
SENIOR LEADER CORPS
(Ages: 13-17 years old) Senior Leader Corps opens the door for teens aged 13-17 to begin volunteering at the Y. Participants learn about leadership, become more aware of social current events, emphasize the Y core values, and review major topics of interest. Leader Corps is an opportunity for youth at the Y to fundraise for their group to participate in activities, and leadership conferences outside of Guelph. Now open to Non-members!
GIRL POWER
(Ages: female members 10-14 years old) Feel good, look great and love yourself, in this all girls’ health, fitness, and well being group. Meeting each week we participate in fitness classes, make healthy meals, have guest speakers and learn about hair, make up and fashion.
BABYSITTING COURSE
(Ages: 10+ years of age) The Babysitter Training Course is an open access, on-going instructional program, divided into eight modules. It is designed for members who have an interest in babysitting children aged 6 months and older. The goal of this program is to help the babysitter trainee learn about childcare, emergency prevention, basic first aid, nutrition, street safety, and activity planning.
POOL Programs
BRONZE MEDALLION
This certification course teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue educational judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, defense methods, and releases in preparation for rescues of increased risk These rescues involve conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500m timed swim. Bronze Medallion includes Emergency First Aid with CPRB. Prerequisites: Bronze Star or age 13
BRONZE CROSS
This program is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certification. This program includes a timed 600m swim. Prerequisites: Bronze Medallion, Emergency First Aid, & CPR- B
NATIONAL LIFEGUARD SERVICE (NLS)
The National Lifeguard Service (NLS) course consists of core lifeguarding principles and techniques and is the certification course required to be a lifeguard. Prerequisites: Bronze Cross, Standard First Aid, CPR-C, & a minimum of 16 years of age
STANDARD FIRST AID AND CPR-C
Standard First Aid incorporates all of Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid. This program includes legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries, bone and joint injuries, abdominal and chest injuries, burns, and medical emergencies. Standard First Aid Recertifications also available.
YMCA INSTRUCTORS
Minimum 16 years of age; current Bronze Cross or higher; current Standard First Aid and CPR-C; swim strokes at YMCA intermediate stroke standard or equivalent.
OPEN SWIM
Open swim is available for all members. Open swim allows for all members to use our aquatic facility. Our slide is available to all members over 6 years of age and over 4 feet tall. Members 10 years or older may attend by themselves. Children 6-10 years who are non-swimmers and all children under 6, must be accompanied by an adult in the water. Must follow Guelph Y Admission Policy
ADULT/TEEN SWIM
For the recreational exerciser and the fitness swimmer. With 3 lanes open and a shallow exercise area, come in and enjoy the benefits of swimming with space for every adult.
GUARDS IN TRAINING (GIT)
Minimum 13 years of age; Bronze Level Swim Skill
The Guards In Training program is a unique aquatic program. It allows volunteers and members, enrolled in advanced leadership courses, to get the experience that they will need to reach their aquatic goals. The GIT participant will feel well prepared to volunteer and assist in all our aquatic programs, as well as succeed in their advanced course training.
AQUATIC LEADER CORP (ALC)
The Aquatic Leader Corp is an innovative aquatic program that fills the void between swim lessons and the lifesaving levels. Designed as a continuous swim lesson, ALC will take swimmers from Star 5 through Bronze Star
