YMCA-YWCA Youth Gambling Awareness Program

Recent studies have shown that young people in Canada have increasing levels of problem gambling, leading to more trouble with their families, friends, school and the law. The YMCA-YWCA of Guelph is one of eighteen Youth Gambling Awareness Program sites funded by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion.  The purpose of the program is to educate the community and to reduce the harm associated with youth gambling.

Covering the Guelph, Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge areas, the program is aimed at young people aged 8 to 24 and those who influence and work with youth.  The program offers workshops for parents, teachers, health professionals, presentations to schools and organizations that work with youth, and referrals to gambling treatment services.  For more information on the YMCA-YWCA of Guelph's Youth Gambling Awareness Program, or to book a presentation, please contact Katie Spears at 519-821-3900 orCLICK HERE  to send an email.

IF YOU MAKE THE CHOICE TO GAMBLE, REMEMBER:

  • Limit the amount of money you bet and time you spend betting
  • Do not spend your winnings on gambling
  • Do not carry more money than you are prepared to lose
  • Continue to do the other activities you enjoy
