
Anne-Marie Zajdlik, founder of Masai for Africa
Dr. Anne-Marie Zajdlik is a family physician, HIV specialist and a mom, who has become a local and international AIDS activist. She is the Founder and Director of the Masai Centre for Local, Regional and Global Health, a provincial HIV/AIDS clinic, the founder of the Masai for Africa Project and creator of the Bracelet of Hope Campaign. Dr. Zajdlik was one of the early members of the OHAfrica Expert Panel for the Sustainability of the Tsepong HIV/AIDS clinic in Lesotho, Africa and is now a member of the OHAfrica Board of Directors. She is a member of the Canadian Medical Team that serves at the Tsepong clinic in Africa. Supported by her family, her community and hundreds of volunteers, Anne-Marie is determined to do what it takes to assist in the global response that is necessary to fight AIDS. Her passion, vision, and will have inspired many to join forces with her, the Bracelet of Hope Campaign and other organizations to bring hope and healing to those touched by AIDS.
Each year, women from Guelph and Wellington County are nominated for and recognized in eight categories:
- Arts and Culture
- Business, Labor, the Professions and Entrepreneurs
- Education and Training
- Public Service
- Science, Technology and Research
- Voluntary Community Service
- Wellness, Health and Recreation
- Young Women of Distinction (age 16-24 years)
Nominations for 2010 are now open.
This year’s Annual Women of Distinction Awards will be held Thursday, May 6th at the River Run Centre in Guelph. Proceeds from this fundraising event help fund the YMCA-YWCA of Guelph’s programs for women and their families.
Nomination for the 2010 awards are due by Jan 21st, 2010.
Tickets will be on sale as of March 1, 2010.
