Award Categories
Arts and Culture
Distinctive achievement in the creation or performance, development, preservation, or patronage of the visual, literary or performing arts.
Business, Labour, the Professions and Entrepreneurs
Distinctive achievement through leadership in management or administration in the private sector, or in entrepreneurial or innovative endeavours.
Education and Training
Distinctive achievement in education, training and development, continuing education or alternative learning programs.
Public Service
Distinctive achievement through leadership and advocacy in management or administration in the public or not-for-profit sector.
Science, Technology and Research
Distinctive achievement through research, clinical, or applied expertise in the biological, physical or social sciences, medicine, technology, agriculture or the environment.
Voluntary Community Service
Distinctive achievement as demonstrated by leadership or involvement in philanthropic or voluntary community programs or organizations. Although nominees in this category may be employed in another field, selection is based on their voluntary work only.
Wellness, Health and Recreation
Distinctive achievement in serving the emotional, physical or spiritual well-being of individuals or the community, through personal or professional service, leadership or education.
Young Woman of Distinction
Distinctive achievement in one or more categories. Nominee must be between 16 and 24 years of age.
Note: Lifetime Achievement, although no longer a distinct category, may be awarded in any category (except Young Woman of Distinction). The Lifetime Award will be based on years of contribution rather than age.
Eligibility
Nominees must:
- Have contributed significantly to the advancement of women and the quality of life in Guelph or Wellington County, but need not presently live here
- Be 16 years of age or older
- Agree with the YMCA-YWCA of Guelph's mission of building strong kids, families and communities through lifelong growth in spirit, mind and body
- Consent to nomination by signing the Nomination Form
In addition:
- Previous nominees may be re-nominated
- Past Award Recipients may be re-nominated in a different category
- Women who currently hold elected public office are not eligible for nomination
- Nominees and nominators may not be current Y staff, members of the Board of Directors of the YMCA-YWCA of Guelph, or volunteers serving on the Women of Distinction committees
- There is no provision for posthumous nominations
- The Nomination Form must be completed and signed by two nominators
