Classes
All classes are included in the membership. The Guelph Y offers more than 60 fitness classes each week for adult and student members (13 yrs. +). Staff are trained to National YMCA standards and provide instruction to meet beginner, intermediate and advanced fitness levels. Classes include:
Aquafit:
Cardio and Strength training without the impact. The Y offers Shallow and Deep Aquafit as well as Gentle Aqua Fit, an osteoporosis friendly program and Water Running a high intensity, no impact cardio workout.
Cycling:
Great indoor total body workout without choreography. Group, a great workout with varying intensity suitable for most levels. Endurance, great for the intermediate and advanced cyclist. Mind, Cycle, Spirit, cycling and flexibility development all in one.
Group Cardio Classes:
Get fit and have fun with classes such as Boxercise, Step, Cardio Blast and Zumba. Zumba is a fun way to get fit while enjoying latin-hip hop-African blended music. Check out Zumba on the internet for more information.
Group Conditioning Classes:
Great full body workouts with emphasis on muscle strengthening. Classes include Total Body, The Brick, interval training with focus on leg strengthening, Power Zone, a boot camp style class and Strength and Stability, with focus on the core using a stability ball. Bootcamp will be added on Friday evenings beginning September 2008.
Pre/Post Natal Classes:
We offer a class called 'Stroller Fit' which incorporates strengthening exercises and cardio activity into a social time just for moms and babies. During inclement weather, class will be facilitated indoors. Pre-natal moms are welcome to join in even without a stroller!
Yoga/Pilates:
Enjoy the benefits of Yoga and Pilates type classes at the Y. Mind Body, a great workout incorporating Yoga, Pilates and other flexibility type movements. Yoga Step perfect for improving core strength, posture and balance, this class combines yoga poses and step. Stretch & Relax, a great way to end your week and reduce stress!
We also offer a number of programs for people to learn about Building Better Bones through the Guelph Y's BREAKTHROUGH Program.
